Oct 7, 2019 · Posted October 11, 2019. the two, 4 digit casting number heads you mention are for m and SM and they are not desirable, and not the same although they will have same bolt pattern, a 450 head was a six digit casting head and is noticeably better at making power. There are new aftermarket heads around that are priced cheap enough.

A 248 ( M block ) can have " thin wall " sleeves installed which makes it into a 264. A 264 ( super M , 400 block ) can have " thin wall " sleeves installed which makes it a 281. A 248 ( M block ) could be bored up to the parent bore diameter of the 264 block and then putting in thin wall sleeves it would be stepped up a 281.

The combine C-301 engine's head (casting number 387718 R2), had smaller combustion chambers. Along with the smaller chambers, this head had bigger intake valves. Put manifold pictures on. 3 rib 450 gas, painted tractor 400 gas, LP tractor one started on late M, used SM and SMTA gas and LP on SM. Unpainted tractor one used on most M tractors.
