You get up to three guaranteed red borders per week and thats for the account and not per class/character - one for completing normal, one for completing legend and one for completing the weekly challenge. You can farm as much as you like beyond that but it's completely RNG.

You shouldn't be random focusing weapons if you want the smg specifically. If you cannot focus an SMG bc you haven't gotten one in collections then do the resonant amps until you get one then focus for it specifically. It's a world drop, so you can still get it. However, because it is a world drop there's no way to farm it. IIRC they’re adding a system next (?) season that allows you to add deepsight to craftable weapons, so keep a couple copies just in case. That isn’t at all what they’re doing.
