Jake brake uses engine compression for braking. So if not in gear it does nothing (except maybe kill the engine) and how effective it is depends upon which gear you are in. So in neutral it does nothing. So if you've accidentally engaged Georgia Overdrive on a steep decline, better hope for a runout lane :)

Removed valve covers, Cyliders 3-4 jakes work on low. Cylinder 1-2 and 5-6 work on medium. On high only banks 1-2 and 5-7 work. The middle bank does not compress the Jake slave pistons. Used scanner and ecm recognizes low medium and high brake position.
