Duramax ticking noise.
I noticed a very slight ticking noise when I test drove it, but it was so slight that I wasn't worried about it. I've put 800 trouble free miles on it in the last two weeks, but the tick gradually got louder over the last two days, and today- got loud enough that I got under the hood to look for what I thought sounded like an exhaust leak.
Engine ticking on new 2024 sierra hd duramax. Picked this truck up Monday. About 180 miles so far and noticed this ticking coming from the engine. I’ve never owned a diesel truck so not sure if this is normal… but I didn’t notice it the first few days… any ideas? That’s the “type writer tick”. It is not the typical ticking noise. It is a thumping noise and it is supposedly caused by the fanbelt. On the 2020 there are two belts now and the fan is by itself. GMTECH link has a small description on the problem but no resolution. 2019 Chevy Duramax L5P Ticking. Engine has a pretty loud tick when I first start it up, sounds like it’s coming from the drivers side but it’s hard to determine. It also increase with RPMs. Once I drive it and get it up to operating temp. It seems to go away. I’ve listened to typewriter tick but this sounds a little bit different.

When at idle (in park or drive doesn't matter) there is a loud ticking noise coming from what sounds like drivers side rear of engine. It is only at idle as soon as throttle is given it goes away. At first I didn't think anything of it but it keeps getting louder and louder.

While picking up my camper, I hear the infamous ticking noise. One year ago, I had the water pump replaced due to a service bulletin. I thought it was the water pump starting to fail again. What you are describing is the common type writer tick. Very common after an oil change. Basically you get some air trapped in the lifter oil passage and it takes a bit of time for it to work out. When my LMM does it it takes 30 to 50 miles for it to clear up. An …a bad flexplate will sound somewhat like a bad rod and should not be ran it can destroy the bellhousing and back of motor if it comes apart. if you pull the dust cover on the bellhousing and the flexplate is cracked and you try to move it by hand it will make noise. 01 gmc sierra. 160,000 miles. new injectors at 160,000.When the engine is fired up cold it sounds perfect, but once it gets to about 140-150 the noise starts and seems to correlate to oil pressure, eg. once the rpm is above 1200 the majority of it goes away. I know it’s an old thread, but the L5P in the 2020 is the noisiest, most unpleasant Duramax to date. The thumping, ticking, screeching, and what I’m assuming is injector knock, is almost Unbearable.
