One source I have lists serial numbers for the '71-'73 period as running from approx 635001-999999 ('72) when they started again at 000001 and by '73 had reached approx 031000.

Les Paul Classics use a different format than typical Gibson USA instruments, based on the format used in the 50s. 9 xxx (only three digits after the 9) is 1989. 1 digit, followed by a space, then four digits, is 1990-1999 (using 0 through 9 as that first digit).
