A 4030/4040 or better yet 4050/4055 would be my choice in that HP range. Yes the hyd hi-lo & pto supply tubes on JD utility tractors had history of some problems but problems seem to lessen on the later model Mannheim built tractors.

630. I have been having hydraulic issues with my 2950 mfwd since i bought it. It does have a loader on it, but i loose steering, brakes, constant drip out of the svc and all hydraulics. but once i rev it up, i start to get hyd back. Also the indicator light comes on when idling when hot.

If I turn down the throttle to idle for a few minutes, I lose all hydraulic pressure even steering. Once I rev it up to 1200 RPM or more, everything comes back to normal.

Noise from the main pump is most likely coming from the main pump drive. Check condition of Cushion #3, Couplings #2 and #4, Cap Screws #5, Splines inside Drive Shaft #6 and Splines on Pump Shaft.
