I have a Storm Lake drop in 9mm barrel for my xdm 40 4.5". Just remember, the stock spring is an 18lb made for .40 ammo. You can shoot the basic 115 grain for 9mm but be prepared for it to jam every so often. I use 124 grain minimum to stay away from jamming. Just make sure you are switching just XDm's in the same caliber. But you should be able to interchange the 9mm and .40S&W. I've heard that .45ACP's have bigger frames and slides. I have two 5.25 XDm's- one in 9mm and one in 40cal. I run the 9mm slide/barrel/spring on the 40 lower for 3 gun and have no problems at all. The 40 lower has a Powder River trigger, Pistol Gear magwell, and a Canyon Creek extended mag release.

I have a springer precision trigger in the 4.5 frame and since it was fitted to my 4.5 slide, it is not as good of a trigger with a different slide. That would be my only caution. Slide Milling Form.
