The engine is constantly advancing and retarding timing and listens for it to start to knock (voltage signal changes) and then will back off the timing. If the sensor never detects knock, it will throw a code. Swapping the sensor out for a resistor is a very bad idea.

Well, between Garmin and Seadoo and the dealer, one or more of those should have info on what charts are included or downloadable with the QR bar code. And how it is supposed to work. Garmin's marine web site does like to upsell marine charts and chart upgrades. What chart is included with a given model can vary with country and region.
