It is brand new and I am not sure it ever functioned.First, remove tension on the belt by unlatching the lever; then unthread the belt off the sheave; swing out the housing, lift it off the Z bar, the remove the Z bar. The new belt guard can stay in place, the front Z bar bracket stays, and the anti-blowout plate stays in place. This is the end of the tutorial for now.
