Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.

I'm guessing that with a 2007 model your 48RE has some miles on it. When was the last time the pan was off. If it tries to shift into 5th (and slips, then aborts) it should set a P0735 fault, and put you into logical limp-in (1st and 4th gears only). If that is what's happening, you probably have a burned OD clutch. Put truck in gear with breaks held, 3-5 seconds later torque converter would try to lock and stall motor for as little as 1 second to until shifted out of gear. This usually happens either on first drive of day or after truck has been setting for a few hours. 2.Ive had a similar problem in a chevy. In my instance the shifter actually jumped out of the grooves between the shift forks. You can take the console off around the shifter and pull the boot up and take the four bolts loose that hold the shifter to the tranny. when you pull up the shifter you will see the grooves that the shifter is supposed to go in.

The ECM might need to see itself out of limp mode, which would mean connecting the missing parts back on for it to see them to pop out of limp mode, and be tuned.

Downshifting from 6th to 4th at 65 (or even 75+) mph shouldn't cause the tires to lock up. In order to fully release the tension keeping it in gear or get the gears to mesh going in, you want to be moving 1-3 mph in either direction when ever you shift in or out. Always try to shift out of 4x4 low on before getting on a hard surface, especially turning.

It just stays in 4th gear. When stuck in 4th the tranny temp will reach upwards of 240 degrees. The only way to correct it is to pull over and turn truck off for 5-10 minutes and then restart it. Seems to be a computer control issue or something to that effect because all the parts inside the transmission are new.

The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case.
