It functions wholly different from every other class and all it gets for being distinct and hard to feel the impact of in combat is objectively worse base numbers everywhere. With Quick Bomber (/Draw), Alch bombs are 1-action. Creating bombs on the spot is 2x action cost, and with Feat investment, the bomb can be enhanced w/ a single, measly Additive. No where close to justifying the action cost. Numerically speaking, that L1 Feat is literally the strongest thing in the Alch's entire kit.

Alchemist was my favourite class back in 1e and it seems like 2e has hobbled it compared to every other class in 2e to the point where your only real option is to become a vending machine. 4 - I always thought the bombs, and the perpetual in particular, were essentially vehicles for delivering persistent damage and ride on effects such as flat footed or etc.

Hobgoblin, quick bomber, Int 18, dex 16. I can say without a doubt the Alchemist is the weakest class in the game. It doesn't have the versatility of skills like the bard and rogue. The damage of bombs scale slightly worse/on par with cantrips/weapons, but to get that scaling you need to sacrifice feats and versatility.
